Our flagship mobile mental health initiative, bringing trauma care and psychosocial support directly to underserved communities across Northeast Nigeria.
Asia was held captive by her husband, who was a member of Boko Haram, in Sambisa forest where her life was completely restricted because she wasnÕt allowed to interact with other people. She was rescued by the Nigerian military with her two children when her husband and other Boko Haram militants had gone on an operation. Asia said that when she arrived to the safe house, Òthere was a new leaf of life.Ó When she first came to the Safe House, she couldnÕt laugh or smile and thought about how she would die soon. After spending time with one of the Neem Foundation psychologists, he made her laugh and smile for the first time. She hopes that her children will receive an education Òso they can get a western education,Ó and become doctors, engineers, or soldiers, to help her and their country.

Our Approach

Healing with Dignity, Supporting with Empathy

Neem Foundation’s psychological support model is built around one core belief: healing is a right, not a privilege. We deliver community-based mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) that’s both professional and deeply empathetic—meeting people where they are, both emotionally and geographically.

Our approach is threefold:

  1. Direct Care – Delivered by trained psychologists and counselors, through one-on-one therapy, group sessions, and mobile units.

  2. Community Empowerment – Building mental health literacy and resilience through peer support groups, lay counseling training, and sensitization.

  3. Creative & Culturally Sensitive Healing – Integrating expressive therapies such as art, dance, and storytelling that resonate with the lived experiences of survivors.

We also focus on strengthening the mental health ecosystem by working with primary health workers, educators, and caregivers—ensuring that support is not episodic, but ongoing.
